Crit Week 2: Reviews

At this week's crit exhibition, I got the  opportunity to see work from both Year 1, 2 and 3 – it allowed me to build dialogues with people I has never met before, but, more importantly, allowed me to share my thoughts and ideas of their work. These three projects were varied  in both their medias and ambitions, developing complex and intriguing pieces. My Three Peers for feedback were Yusoo Park, Rowan Parfree and Jaz Bartlett...

Crit Piece 3

Jaz Bartlet's Project considered the idea of female sexuality and the female gaze through Stanley Kubric Movies - in this case "Clockwork Orange". This Piece was a collage that took up the whole wall, comprised of women's bodies, but never the face, which developed a certain amount of dehumanization.  Whilst the piece was very successful, imposing purely in its large scale, I feel that it could have become an immersive space if she had added mannequins or something of this nature to replicate the 2D figures in the collage, or perhaps adding the Music from "Clockwork Orange", which I believe to be Beethoven, to create a sense of power that this work deserves...

I suggest painting on unconventional materials, or making canvases of unusual shapes, which will amount to developing a personal style...

Crit Piece 1

This piece is a video-sculpture piece that explores the male gaze. This piece was quite successful  in creating an immersive  space by incorporating the colour yellow, displaying the banana from the video in real life besides the film. The video itself was a banana being rubbed over women's faces to remove the faces. There was also an auido of an old song that made the whole piece come together and almost became a hypnotic experience...
