This project took place in the library where I had to use research and analysis skills to select 3 words (Cindy Sherman, Repeat and Evolve)  randomly from the library, picking up random books that I can then explore and how they interconnect visually. Cindy Sherman often dealt with narrative and identity, linking into repeat which links to process and form and evolve, which is synonymous with developing, strength and security.  I found the visual language and how I communicated the key words fascinating, linking to the formal elements of line, colour and pattern.

3D Drawing

Space Cadets

Smelly Melodies

Body Boundries: Prosthetics

Project Theoria

This project explored space when "drawing" without conventional drawing materials. My first task was to create a spontaneous 3D structure made from paper and sellotape, which was heavily process based. I then used the off cuts of our images to create a collage; the idea was to use space and negative space to inhabit a physical location. I found this task of "drawing" rather difficult to communicate when dealing with sculture and collage and

This project was inspired by Lagya Pape as I measured a space by wrapping  copper wire around two posts to create an inception of spaces within spaces . This allowed the audience to connect to the piece as they had to interact with the piece, changing  the angle of the spaces created. I then wrapped the wire around a ramp and therefor, people had to interact with it more explicitly.  I found this piece most effective as it was unintentionally a piece of performative art. These two manifestations of space  created an awareness of how everything is a space confined within another space...

a physical location. The concept of looking not at the object, but rather at the space that defines it - as well as it's relationship it holds with the viewer- was a fascinating concept.

This conceptual brief considered soundscapes when combined with unpleasant scents, sch as a smelly drain or, like the one my group got, a dog basket. At first, we struggled to decide what a dog baskets's scent would actually look like. However, we began to brainstorm words such as pungent, dark, heavy, musky, wet, scratchy, heavy, thick ad so wall started adding to the piece, using thick marker pens to create this heavy effect. There are three distinct markings styles, such as the thick line at the bottom to represent the underlying, lingering scent, the large blots and these thin scratchy lines. After this, we had to give it to another group so they could preform the soundscape using spontaneity and teamwork. To improve, perhaps we could have used colour, perhaps breaking up the image into sections to make it for distorted; it was an interesting exercise  to hear another group's interpretation of our work  .

This time, my brief was to create a symbiotic or parasitic prosthetic. I decided to invert the use of hand prosthetics so that it was impossible to pick things up and was a physical and psychological hindrance, made with paper and black tape . The idea of making the extension black was synonymous with darkness and evil, as well as the idea of a dead limb. Moreover, this became a performative piece as I had my friend, Ellie. This piece connected rather effectively with the audience to the piece as it made her feel uncomfortable as the space around her hands seemed claustrophobic.

This page displays some Tutorial Based projects that were set by us t make us consider our own studio practice, making us consider the aims of a brief, formals elements, materials and problem solving. It also allowed us to expand our studio practice, thought processes  and research and analysis.  These projects include ideas about space, journey and time, sound and performative art and how this links to the audience.

Proposition 69

This piece was made from a 10ft by 10ft translucent plastic dust sheet LAYERED WITH splattered with both metallic and matt paints inspired my jackson pollock, using the colour ink and blue to symbolise the masculine and Feminine. tHIS PIECE WAS MUCH MORE INDEPENDENT WITHIN THE PROCESS, WHICH HEAVILY INFLUENCED THE Concepts of sexuality behind it. The material of the plastic dust sheet was very versatile; i found that I could suspend it in different ways - however, perhaps the most effective context of presentation was when it was suspended from the ceiling so as to appear referencing a condom. There were some limits to the material as it was rather filmsy and and when the paint dried it created holes in the plastic. When thinking critically about this piece, it was suggested that i explore the symbolism of the bed sheet and the nonnative narrative  behind it.

Stacheldraht

Las Meninas

iNSPIRED by Diego Velázquez's  "Las Meninas", 1656 - a paintings that uses composition to  raises questions about reality and illusion, and develops relationship between the viewer and the figures depicted within the painting. We were split into groups and given these Screen Printed portraits on plywood with a breif to distort reality. We came to a resolution, creating a panoramic layout, that was meant to fragment the

orginal image - allowing for a contemporary interpretation on a classical image...

This piece is called "Stacheldraht" or "Barbed wire" and was made in response to visiting anselm kiefer at the White Cube in London. I was inspired by the raw materiality of his works and wanted to explore this as a speculative exploration dealing in the aesthetics of sculptural works. This piece was made from a rusted steel frame and rusted wire that had been salvaged from the scrap Box.  I struggled with the context of the  generic White walled space, but this created an interesting juxtaposition.
