The Memory Tree Project
The Memory Tree was inspired by my trip to Hnakly Common, the ideas of nature reclaiming a manmade space and an article by ecologist, Suzanne Simard that I read about how trees can recognise their descendants; Simard even goes as far as to compare the complex root systems to the neural networks of the human brain. My intention was to create an instillation, referencing the polaroid to represent memory fragments from the lifetime of a tree - the polaroid is a spontaneous snapshot in time, a moment that will never be realised again. This Piece was made from wood, acrylic, nylons and paper. using themes of nature and the memory/life force of trees. I used polaroid pictures to create the concept of memory fragments.
